The role of Maid of Honor (MOH) is very important and comes with several key responsibilities, both before and during the wedding day. Here’s a breakdown of what a Maid of Honor should do:

1. Pre-Wedding Tasks:

  • Help with wedding planning: The MOH is often the bride’s right-hand person when it comes to making decisions or brainstorming ideas. She might help with choosing vendors, picking out wedding attire, and organizing details.
  • Attend pre-wedding events: This includes bridal showers, engagement parties, dress fittings, and any other gatherings. The MOH plays a key role in planning, organizing, and participating in these events.
  • Coordinate with Bridesmaids: As the lead of the bridal party, the MOH communicates with the bridesmaids, making sure everyone is on the same page for dates, outfits, and duties.
  • Assist with dress shopping: The MOH helps the bride with selecting the wedding dress and may accompany her on fittings.
  • Provide emotional support: Being there to listen, offer advice, and help the bride manage the stress that comes with planning a wedding is a big part of the role.

2. On the Wedding Day:

  • Help the bride get ready: On the big day, the Maid of Honor assists with the bride’s dress, veil, shoes, and any last-minute touches.
  • Keep the bride calm: The MOH should help ensure the bride feels relaxed and supported, offering comfort and encouragement.
  • Hold the bride’s bouquet: During the ceremony, the Maid of Honor typically holds the bride’s bouquet and may help adjust her train or veil.
  • Assist with logistics: The MOH helps ensure the wedding party stays on schedule and assists with any last-minute needs (such as helping with the bustle of the bride’s gown or keeping track of important items like rings).
  • Give a speech or toast: At the reception, it’s common for the Maid of Honor to give a heartfelt speech or toast in honor of the couple. It’s an emotional and celebratory moment that typically highlights the relationship between the Maid of Honor and the bride.

3. General :

  • Support the bride: The overall job is to provide emotional and practical support to the bride throughout the entire process. The MOH should be someone the bride trusts deeply, as they are often the bride’s go-to person for reassurance and help.
  • Stay organized: Keeping track of wedding-day responsibilities, and helping the bride stay on schedule is a crucial role of the Maid of Honor.
  • Coordinate the bridal party: Ensuring the bridesmaids are prepared, on time, and in good spirits is a big part of the job. The MOH often leads the bridal party in rehearsals and is responsible for making sure the group is ready to go.

Being a Maid of Honor requires a mix of organizational skills, emotional intelligence, and a lot of love and support for the bride.

It’s a big responsibility but also an incredible honor and a way to be deeply involved in one of the most important days of a close friend’s or family member’s life.
